Daytona Beach News Journal: Costello wins straw poll in GOP congressional race at Volusia Republicans’ hob nob

From the Daytona Beach News Journal:

“Fred Costello won a straw poll of congressional Republican candidates Monday at Daytona International Speedway.

The straw poll was taken as five of the six currently in the race were answering questions in a 90-minute forum following the first-ever Volusia County Republican Party hob nob. About 350 people attended, said Tony Ledbetter, the party chairman.

Of 251 straw-poll votes, Costello claimed 72, or 28.7 percent, defeating four of his five challengers in the Republican primary for the 6th District seat being vacated by Ron DeSantis, who’s running for the Senate. Costello, a state representative from Ormond Beach, said he also now has the endorsement of all five former candidates from a field that, all tallied, has involved 11 Republicans.

The primary is Aug. 30.”
